Easily the most startling passage in “Going Rogue,” running more than two pages, collates extended excerpts from a prayerful letter Palin wrote to mark the birth of Trig, her child with Down syndrome. This missive’s understandable goal was to reassert Palin’s faith and trust in God. But Palin did not write her letter to God; she wrote the letter from God, assuming His role and voice herself and signing it “Trig’s Creator, Your Heavenly Father.” If I may say so — Oy!

Even by the standard of politicians, this is a woman with an outsized ego.

Barbara Stoutjesdyk posed next to Sarah Palin's bus on Wednesday in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Quote
“It’s more fun talking politics with people who agree with you,” said Lucy Vigmostad, who was celebrating her 18th birthday by being first in line in Grand Rapids.

As they wondered whether Ms. Palin would run for president, people here could not say exactly what they thought she would do differently to get the country out of its messes. But, they argued, she has common sense and understands how to run a family and a state. That seemed to be enough.

“I’m looking forward to her giving me hope,” said Cheryl Geraty, waiting in the rain in Grand Rapids.

That sounded something like Mr. Obama, who had effectively started his own campaign for the White House on a book tour in 2006. No, Ms. Geraty said, shaking her head and smiling, “It’s a different kind of hope.”

From the article:

"We gave up our entire workday, stayed in the cold, my kids were crying," one man was quoted saying.

Wow.

What kind of a person would have their kids stand in a cold rain for hours to get an autograph?

For more insight into the mindset of Palin supporters, check out these two videos:

and

I was expecting the usual snarky "lets make fun of the lumpen proletariat" video, which we've been seeing a lot of in this era of tea-baggery.

But, lo and behold, the guys behind these videos actually call these folks out. Which, to my mind, is infinitely more respectful than nodding your head as you hold the microphone, then sitting down in front of your editing software to make them look like morons (which, granted, isn't very difficult).

My favorites are the guy in the red knit cap who tries so hard to look thoughtful and deliberative; the woman who says Obama doesn't love his country because, well, "Have you ever heard him say that he does?"; and, most especially, the interview that closes out Part 2.

Priceless.

When I walked into the Strand Bookstore in Manhattan last week, I headed straight for the bright young thing who wore an “Ask Me” button, and asked her to point me to the section of the store where I might find Sarah Palin’s memoir, “Going Rogue: An American Life.” She looked at me as if I had requested a copy of “Mein Kampf” signed in blood by the author, and directed me to the nearest Barnes and Noble, where, presumably, readers of dubious taste and sensibility could find what they wanted.

I wonder how many accidentally buy this one (I admit it took me a moment to realize the 'error')

From the Washington Post--

Quote
An astute Fixista flagged a fascinating interview that former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin gave to conservative talk radio host Lars Larson last Friday in which she appears to leave the door open to a third party bid for president in 2012. Asked by Larson whether she would consider running as a third party candidate, Palin said: "That depends on how things go in the next couple of years." Larson told the 2008 vice presidential nominee that answer "sounds like a yes" to which she responded: "If the Republican party gets back to that [conservative] base, I think our party is going to be stronger and there's not going to be a need for a third party, but I'll play that by ear in these coming months, coming years." Which, to the Fix's delicate ears, sounds like Palin leaving the door wide open. As we have written before, Palin is not -- and never will be -- a candidate of the Republican establishment. Given that, and the unpredictability she demonstrated in her stunning decision to resign as governor over the summer, no potential avenue to the presidency should be ruled out.

As terrifying as the notion of President Palin may be to us, Third Party Candidate Palin terrifies the Republican bigwigs even more.   She'd absolutely destroy their chances to beat Obama in 2012.

I don't think she'd do it unless she felt she had absolutely no shot at the GOP nomination, and when you get right down to it, that's the message she's sending here.  If they shut her out, she'll shut them down.  She has no loyalties to anyone or anything other than her thirst for money and fame.  She's proven again and again that the GOP means nothing to her, except as a stepping stone.

So while that may work for us in the short run, in the long run, she's got to be brought down--hard.

Not all that pleasing, actually--

And she was TWENTY YEARS OLD when that was taken.

It's pretty easy to look good standing next to most conservative Republicans.
