Spiderman 2: Little Apple Hero Contest

By Webmaster
20 May 2004

Kids: Now is your chance to be a Little Apple Hero!

The Mayor’s Volunteer Center (MVC), the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting and Sony are producing a contest called “Little Apple Heroes,” inspired by Spider-Man. Children aged 8-13 who enter are encouraged to develop a volunteering plan that would improve the community in which they live (a book drive for a community center or school, improving a community garden, etc.). The contest is open to all members of the public in this age range (i.e., not limited to schools or other specific community/volunteer groups). All entries are due by 5:00PM ET, May 28, 2004. The Mayor’s Volunteer Center will pick the 5 winners, one from each borough, and help them realize their volunteer “plans of action.”

MVC urges all children ages 8-13 to enter the contest. Tell us how your project would benefit the community! For more information and a copy of the contest entry form, please visit www.nyc.gov/volunteer.

Details:

1) First 125 entrants who submit volunteer action plans will receive 2 tickets to a special screening and party on May 6 of the original Spider-Man, and 2 tickets to an advance screening of Spider-Man 2 on June 28, 2004.

2) The five grand prize winners of the contest (“Little Apple Heroes”) will appear on NBC’s Today, receive a Spider-Man 2 prize pack that will include a t-shirt and poster from the movie, a $500 gift certificate to Toys-R-Us, 4 tickets to a special screening and party for the original Spider-Man on 6/6/04, and 4 tickets to an advance screening of Spider-Man 2 on June 28, 2004.

Readers’ Comments

Hi, I am 13 years old in Junior High. I entered the Spider-man Essay Contest along with my whole grade. Many people won, some whose essays weren’t very great. I would like to know if you randomnly choose the winners or you pick the next best 125. Please respond to me. I am like the only one who didn’t get a letter, and I worked extremely hard on the essay. Thank You for your cooperation! (Posted by Anonymous on June 17, 2004 05:22 PM.)
