Department of Park & Recreation’s new fitness program, Wake Up New York, was designed to help deal with the epidemic of overweight and obesity that is hitting New York City. Workouts are scheduled three times every morning from Tuesday through Saturday at J. Hood Wright Park (174th Street and Fort Washington Avenue).
Each workout lasts an hour and starts out with an energizing walk around the park (on rainy days, the workout begins with low-impact aerobics to music indoors at the recreation center). This is followed with strength, balance, and body sculpting. The workout ends with a cooldown stretch. This program is FREE and open to people of all ages and abilities. Just show up wearing workout clothes, and bring friends, kids, and drinking water. It’s a great way to start the day!
Schedule:
Tue-Fri at 7:15, 8:30 and 9:45 a.m.
Sat 9:00, 10:15 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
