For telemarketers, New Yorkers just became a little tougher to get ahold of. Governor George Pataki signed into law yesterday a bill that adds the state’s 2.4 million “Do Not Call” entries onto a similar, federally managed list. Membership on the national registry gives New Yorkers some added protection, including a block on solicitations from not-for-profit companies. Pataki said that having the Federal Trade Commission manage the lists will also save the state $1.4 million.
Someone wishing to be added to the merged registries should visit http://www.DoNotCall.gov/ or call (888) 382-1222 from the phone number he or she wants added.
